Have you ever wondered why they call a certain part of the summer dog days? This year the dog days are from July third through August the eleventh. It normally marks the hottest time of the year for us. But also these dates just don’t happen because its July and August. These dates are chosen because a certain star Sirius, the Dog Star is the brightest star in the sky at the rising of the sun. If you have one of the night time sky apps you can see the consultation on your phone. Why do I write this you might be asking yourself? God has given us a witness in His creation. Please read Psalm 19 as we study verses one through six. David begins by telling us that the heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. When we read the first chapter of Genesis, the account of the creation of the universe and our earth, we must remember that none of this existed. God spoke and it came into existence. In his creation order everything was dark until he spoke light into existence. In all of this he started making a separation of the water’s below from the waters above. As God goes through creation notice what he says on the fourth day, “ Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days of years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on earth”; and it was so. (Gen. 1:14-15) These lights as David has noted have been a witness of God giving him glory the whole time. Even in our earth’s atmosphere the expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Just watch the clouds, the wind, the weather patterns as we move from season to season. King David didn’t have a Hubble or Webb telescope in outer space but he did have the Spirit of God resting on him and instructing him. As David focuses on the earth’s Sun. He writes that the sun is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber. This is a picture of an orient wedding where the focus is on the groom. A groom’s face is radiant as he is about to marry his bride. Next David says the sun rejoices like a strong man to run his course. There are just some people who are made to run and the longer they run the stronger they become. The Sun’s energy is shown as it runs its circuit day after day. Here on this earth nothing can escape its heat. As the season’s change, as the weather changes nature gives us a testimony that God is sovereign, he is faithful, that his wisdom is such that no man can understand it all. Creation points humanity of all nationalities, of all religious beliefs-even the atheist that there is a Living God who created everything we see and that he upholds it by his power. Are you listening to the creations testimony as they glorify the God of the Bible?
